ULYSSES THE RUBY RED DEVON BULL – PRINT ON PAPER
Ulysses lived at the post office down the road from me. When I first started on my cow painting odyssey, I used to stock my cards in the local post office. I’d walk down the Somerset muddy lane from my house (dodging the cow pats with my children in a pushchair) to the post office, clutching a few hand-made cards. We’d then go and see the cows around the back. The lady at the post office really wanted a painting of her Ruby Red Devon bull, Ulysses and persuaded me that it was a good idea to get up close and personal with him in a field – he was very “gentle”. Slightly nervous of his horns, I believed her and went photographing. It turned out she was right, he was a big softy and loved a bit of a head scratch.
I love his horns and his luscious curls. He is one upstanding gentleman and is a favourite cow painting of the gents!
